On behalf of the Department of Mathematics at Siena Heights University (SHU), it gives us great pleasure to invite you, your colleagues, and your students to participate in the 14th Annual Michigan Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, to be held on Saturday, March 3rd 2012, at Dominican Hall on the Siena Heights University Campus.

This year’s conference will feature a variety of presentations by students and graduate program representatives.  In addition, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Timothy J. Pennings   will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Pennings is the author of the article series “Do dogs know calculus?”.

We hope that you will help us spread the word regarding the conference and that you will encourage your students to attend and give presentations.  Fifteen minute talks may focus on original research or expository on material that most students do not encounter in the undergraduate curriculum.

Major funding for this year’s conference is being provided by Siena Heights University and by NSF Grant  DMS-0846477   through the MAA’s Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (RUMC) program.  Additional sponsors include Texas Instrument.  Conference registration is $25 for faculty member, free for all students and a small amount of transportation funding is available for students who give presentations. However, we strongly encourage every mathematics department to cover transportation costs for its student attendees. Snacks and lunch are included in the conference.

Registration Extended: you may register ONLINE until MARCH 2. You may register ON SITE, but would encourage you to let us know you are coming so that we can more accurately plan for meals.
We may have a limited number of openings for speaker proposals or posters. However, to get included in the printed program, we need your submission by Thursday, March 1.
Onsite registration will be $25 for nonstudent attendee’s.  Questions should be directed to any member of the organizing committee:  Tim Husband (thusband@sienaheights.edu), Jeff Kallenbach (jkallenb@sienaheights.edu), and Andrew-David Bjork (abjork@sienaheights.edu).
We are very excited about this event, which has become an annual tradition for undergraduate mathematics students in Michigan, and we look forward to seeing you on March 3rd.
